Variety nourishes creativity.

Howdy,

This time of year presents me with a few challenges. I do get seasonal depression sometimes ( although thankfully this has been one of the best years of avoiding that ever! ) plus I have my new years missions, plans, goals and strategies still ringing in my ears. My head is usually busy and my body is usually slow. It's cold outside and its raining constantly because, wales, and there just seems like theres so much to do. I keep my hands busy making things and I've put in some good routines to keep things ticking over and to give me a sense of progress always. This is a year when my little and often philosophy comes in really handy.

I learned a long time ago, the hard way though that being busy in itself doesn't fill your creative cup. Also, just expecting to have endless resources of inspiration is just not realistic either. I have noticed in my lifetime that inspiration comes in waves. There are seasons to how I create. But I'm also multi passionate, so, thankfully, when I am creatively empty in one area theres usually something going on in another. When I don't have anything left I want to paint I can usually write and if theres nothing I want to write I can usually make music.

Sometimes though, theres nothing in any of these areas. I've had times where that well inside of me has just completely run dry. Back in the day that was usually a sign for me to go into a massive panic or a drama littered depression. These days I just take it as a sign that it's time to go fill my creative cup. I visit friends more, go on adventures, connect with other artists, watch movies I haven't seen, deep dive into youtube to find new music and basically look for anything new to try out. Variety nourishes creativity. So does rest, love, laughter and learning.

Feeling a bit creatively flat for a few months is not a “block”, try to listen to it with a compassionate mind and try to do something new.

Be Gentle,

Big love,
